Saint-Hippolyte

Eglise Saint-Hippolyte

Orgue Mutin-Cavaillé-Coll 1910 (2 claviers, 16 jeux).

In 2010, the parish commemorated its first century. The history of the church, Neo-Gothic in style and completed in 1924 (by architect Astruc), is linked to the history of the quarter, home of a poor, working-class population at the beginning of the 20th c. and the arrival of Asians and building of towers in 1970. Inside, on the tympanum, a fresco by H. Marret (1936) recounts the martyrdom of Saint Hippolyte, a Roman legionnaire converted by Saint Laurent. The mosaics of the chancel are by Girard (1911). The week chancel, which harbours a painting of the Visitation (Spanish school, early I7th c.), is separated from the church by an engraved window (Franck Lalou, 2002). A statue of Notre Dame des Nations in polychrome wood by Kaeppelin (1990). Outside, a fresco made by inhabitants of the quarter : “From all countries shall thy children come”.
